Architecture Restriction Proposal 4.1Architecture Updated through Oct. 2:

deleted."Rome wasn't built in a day."
The nuclear explosion and resulting shockwave tore through the local area, ripping through buildings. Their structural integrity lost, many structures simply collapsed while others became condemned due to heavy radiation. As the survivors cling to life, they resort to building basic shelters to protect themselves from the elements. Without proper knowledge of building safety requirements, these shelters had to be kept as simple as possible or else they risk collapsing upon the residents within.Making do with scraps of wood, carpet, metal, mortar, and bricks, survivors no longer dream of building beautiful abodes. As they rebuild, rumors of hidden meeting places pass from one to another and that the famous architect Howard Brady may have survived the explosion in such places.
-No space completely enclosed by wall elements is allowed on a community lot
-You may not place more than 2 items from each build mode category per day (2 wall sections AND 2 squares of paint AND 2 sections of flooring, etc. per the Middle of Nowhere Legacy handicap). Deleted items count against the daily limit. Ignore this restriction on the first day your founder is on the lot in order to get your house established, unless you choose to use a Secret Society safehouse (your house has already been established). You may use Auto Roof on a safehouse on the first day to replace the roof with a flat one, but after that you may not use it at all.
-You may not place The Great Divide from the fencing tab (Pets)or any item from the Architecture tab (M&G)
-You may not use greenhouse materials, doors inset with glass, or any windows except for the Glassterpiece Privacy Window
-The only staircases available are New and Modern, Simple Staircase, and the green and brown connecting stairs. You may not use elevators or spiral staircases.
-You may only use the cheapest paneling, tile and paint for covering walls and the cheapest wood, carpet, and tile floor coverings (nothing over $3).
-You may not place fencing that costs more than $20, awnings over $35, or fireplaces over $100.
-Safehouses may retain any higher-quality building materials used to create them.
-You may not build on more than three floors above ground. You may have an accessible flat roof and place items there, and you may have an awning above that to comply with Music restrictions. Basements do not count against this rule, but driveways do.
-Houses must be supported by at least four stilts or foundation materials.
-You may not use building cheats. MoveObjects may only be used to fix glitches.
-Only Sims currently in the Architecture career may use the Drafting Table (also restricted by Adventure and Artist).
- No selling build mode items. This includes tearing down the roof to build another floor, so only flat roofs until you've built up as much as you plan. You may open a space in which to place stairs. -No Skyscrapers
- Cannot build higher than four floors.
- No Skyscrapers or other building decorations allowed in the neighbourhood.
- Sims may not purchase or use the "Mysterious Looking Bookcase"
- Sims may not purchase or use the Ceiling FanOnce a great architect rises in the family, they are able to draw up blueprints to create safer homes for the survivors. With the construction company the architect started up in his/her early days, sights are set on rebuilding the community areas lost in the inital blast. With the region being rebuilt, Howard Brady reveals himself to the public once more, bringing with him his engineering prowess. Together with the newly arrived City Planner, the region begins rebuilding making use of quality building supplies stashed at formerly secret locations.Suggested Edits for Architecture

MoN rule doesn't mean much if it doesn't apply to the founder when first setting up house. Perhaps we should limit safehouses or first-day building to 1 liveable floor to start with? Otherwise, founders will be able to max out their space the first day, and MoN rule will be pointless.(I disagree with limiting to one livable floor on the first day to add bite; what if Politics is lifted before Architecture? You would still be stuck in the tower house until you could build a bigger livable house OR this gets lifted)I disagree with this - $20K usually gets you only one liveable floor on the first day anyway, and if your founder was resourceful enough in Uni to bring back enough money to build or buy a house with two liveable levels, I say more power to you.Going with The Collective on MoN.-You may not place The Great Divide from the fencing tab (Pets) or any item from the Architecture tab (M&G)

4.1 is good to go in my estimation
Architecture Proposal 4.0Forgot one:-No space completely enclosed by wall elements is allowed on a community lot.
Architecture still restricts buildings on community lots. - - added to main set above.
-You may not place more than 2 items from each build mode category per day (see the Middle of Nowhere Legacy handicap).
To head off confusion on this, perhaps add something like "may not place more than 2 sections each of walls + wall coverings + floor tiles + railings + windows, etc., per day"I like this rule as currently worded, but maybe "(2 wall sections, 2 squares of paint, 2 squares of flooring, etc. as per the Middle of Nowhere Legacy handicap)"MoN rule doesn't mean much if it doesn't apply to the founder when first setting up house. Perhaps we should limit safehouses or first-day building to 1 liveable floor to start with? I would move this right beneath the "2-per-day" rule so it's easier to see that the Architecture tab is not allowed under the 2-per-day rule.-You may not build on more than three floors above ground (this includes a driveway). You may have an accessible flat roof and place items there. You may have a basement.
Does that mean we get either a driveway + 2 liveable floors + awning-covered roof OR, if no driveway, 3 liveable floors (or 4 with a basement - that's a lot, but with no car...) + awning-covered roof? Also, as per Music's "everything must be covered by a roof", do awnings really count as "roof"?Yes, awnings are acceptable coverings for the purposes of the Music restriction per the podcast.WITH a driveway, it's just two liveable floors above that then, right?-Houses must be supported by at least four stilts or foundation materials.
-You may not use building cheats. Move_objects may only be used to fix glitches.
The cheat is "moveObjects"-Only Sims currently in the Architecture career may use the Drafting Table (also restricted by Adventure and Artist).
I think these are perfect, now.Architecture Proposal 3.0-No space completely enclosed by wall elements is allowed on a community lot. As long as the lot is not used for a community business, you may ignore the 8x8 restriction and the following build mode items are allowed: dead trees, the land tool, and roofs. (Imagine empty malls, pubs called the Winchester, abandoned cabins in the woods, etc.)
This restricts the build mode items too much - it sounds like we can't use fencing, paving or even walls. Mainly, trees and water are what need restricting - lifeless, barrenI think globally restricting community lots is good. Just a blurb stating that the lots must be compliant with the restrictions still in place at the time of creation.-Sims in college who are abducted by the Secret Society must leave the Society lot as soon as they are able.
I know we need this, but I think it needs to go in the global rules change, which hasn't been written yet.We should clarify that this does not apply to the founder in college.I agree this needs clarification. Not even sure if it is worth restricting it. Or if we do, why it needs to be under architecture.Hey, how about an addendum to this one?: "Unless the founder in college rebuilt the Secret Society lot to comply with all Apocalypse community lot restrictions, Sims in college who are abducted by the Secret Society must leave the Society lot as soon as they are able."-You may not place more than 2 items from each build mode category per day (2 wall sections, 2 squares of paint or flooring, etc.). Deleted items count against the daily limit. Ignore this restriction on the first day your founder is on the lot in order to get your house established, unless you choose to use a Secret Society safehouse (your house has already been established). You may use Auto Roof on a safehouse on the first day to replace the roof with a flat one, but after that you may not use it at all.
the rule is a good one, I used the Pinstar handicap "Middle of Nowhere" in my last Apocalypse, which has the same premise - only 2 build items a day, and it was great fun and works with the apocalypse theme really well.At first glance, I thought this meant you could move 2 items per category daily. At the same time it can be understood to mean moving 2 items TOTAL daily. It's not as clear as it could be.I don't know whether the above comment is intended for this version, or an earlier one. This is why I don't want to hunt and peck for commentary.Pretty good rule set overall. I think I will always remember the meaning of "two items from each build mode category"!Overly restrictive.-You may not use greenhouse materials, doors inset with glass, or any windows except for the Glassterpiece Privacy Window and the Knot-Hole by Log Creations.
I'd order these two after the safehouse exception. That darn Knot-Hole is too big. Move to strike and go with only Glassterpiece-The only staircases available are Holy Smoke, Simple Staircase, and the green and brown connecting stairs. You may not use elevators or spiral staircases.
Why are Holy Smoke ($80 stackable) stairs allowed, but not the New and Modern ($75 stackable)?Move to replace Holy Smoke with New and Modern, (Holy Smoke are glass *gasp* anyway)I'd order these two after the safehouse exception.-You may only use the cheapest paneling and paint for covering walls and the cheapest wood, carpet, and tile floor coverings (nothing over $3).
I understand Wallpapers are out, but why allow Tile floors and not Tiled walls? Also, wouldn't it make more sense to allow Masonry or Brick (or both, in any case, neither require a lot of 'knowhow') for the outside of the houses?I was also thinking we shouldn't need to distinguish which types of wall and floor coverings are allowed, as the $3 limit alone addresses everything we agreed upon. EDIT: The problem with Masonry and Brick is they start at a much higher price ($8 and $9) and raise the Environment bar 10-15 points.$3 Wallpaper is too nice, so we can't go with "any wallcovering." I do agree we should allow tile walls.Sorry for insisting on this, but one of my favorite parts of the Apocalypse is doing apocalypsy looking sheds. Anyway, I understand that EA made the paneling, brick and masonry walls over $7 and thus, they would be out, but what about CC content? I have some of those under $3 that do look pretty apocalyptic, including one that literally has paneling parts falling down. I'm not sure how the environment is affected by those, but since they're under $3, they should be allowed, right? (I still agree that wallpaper -even if one gets ruined, bleak and torn wallpaper as CC- should be out)Have to admit, that bugs me about this rule too - I found a ton of interesting wallpapers, floors etc. who basically 'breathe' apocalypse all over them... only sad thing is, that they are all <3 $.
- of course, Showbusiness doesn't allow us to choose the right apocalyptical clothing and hairstyles either, so we might as well deal with it... or perhaps we can just change the price for some wall papers and floors... or is the environmental score influenced by something different than the price? To allow CC, why not put in a global rule that says, "Any CC worse than or identical to an allowed object is allowed."-Safe houses may retain any higher quality building materials used to create them. Whoops, this one was dropped by accident. Makes the most sense right after paint/floor because is only separated by the other Safe House mention by one rule. The other build mode stuff can go after this.-You may not place fencing that costs more than $20, awnings over $35, or fireplaces over $100.
-You may not place The Great Divide from the fencing tab (Pets) or any item from the Architecture tab (M&G)
-You may not build on more than three floors above ground (this includes a driveway). You may have an accessible flat roof and place items there. You may have a basement.
-Houses must be supported by at least four stilts or foundation materials.
-
No building cheats. Move_objects may only be used to fix glitches. This was edited out for Nemo's comment Perhaps we can toss the building cheats into the general rules,
but I think people should be able to use building cheats after Architecture is lifted.-Only Sims currently in the Architecture career may use the Drafting Table, provided Adventure and Artist have been lifted.
-Only Sims currently in the Architecture career may use the Drafting Table career reward (also restricted by Adventure and Artist).Architecture Proposal 2.0For rule order, I suggest the community lot rule first, since it seems most like the flavor text. Then, the Middle of Nowhere restriction, which is the main restriction and has to stick in people's minds. Follow with building materials, and then build method restrictions. End with the Career Reward. We may as well end all of them with the Career Reward.-Only Sims currently in the Architecture career may use the Sim Series Drafting Table, provided both Artist and Adventure have been lifted
- in his rules, Pinstar did not bother to write career rewards name or that it is also restricted by adventure plus another career. perhaps rather:
Only those in the Architecture career may use the architecture career reward object.
and in Artist (it's a short restriction):
You may not use the architecture career reward object (the drawing table).Only those in the Architecture career may use the Drafting Table, provided Adventure and Artist have been lifted. This item provides a fun way to build creativity, but so does the Rock Hammer from Music, and Pinstar ruled specifically that item would not be restricted by Artist.-You may not build on more than three floors above ground (this includes a driveway). You may have an accessible flat roof and place items there. You may have a basement.
- this is in my eyes one of the core restrictions - but still a bit ambigous: a floor laid on foundation can technically be considered also as 'above ground'. perhaps: '...above natural ground and/or a foundation floor.'
- also: 'you may have a usable roof' might be shorter, but still clear enough - at least for me-You may not build greenhouses
Suggest merge-You may only use the cheapest paneling and paint for decorating walls (nothing over $3)
Suggest merge-You may only use the cheapest wood, carpet, and tile floors (nothing over $3)
-You may only use the cheapest paneling and paint for wall covering
and the cheapest wood, carpet, and tile floor coverings (nothing over $3)-You may not use doors inset with glass or any windows except for the Glassterpiece Privacy window or the Knot-Hole by Log Creations
-You may not use greenhouse materials, doors inset with glass, or any windows except for the Glassterpiece Privacy window or the Knot-Hole by Log Creations-The only stairs available are Simple Staircase, Holy Smoke, and the green and brown connecting stairs. You may use railings. You may not use elevators.
-You may not place any fencing over $20, any awning over $35, or any fireplace over $100
How about:
Supply with Buildings items is limited. You may only use:
- Paneling and Paint for walls and wood, carpet and tile floors (nothing over $3).
- the cheapest window.
- doors without glass inset, except the Knothole by Log creations.
- the simple staircase, Holy smoke and the green and brown connecting stairs.
you may not place elevators, spiral stairs, fences over $20, awnings over $35 or fireplaces over $100.-No floating houses—they must be supported by at least four stilts OR a foundation.
'houses must be supported by at least four stilts and/or foundation elements'-You may not have buildings (spaces enclosed by four walls) on community lots. The regional businesses and parks have been devastated. There is no shelter from the cold, no place enclosed from the ravages of the elements. There are only ruins, dead trees, scattered junk and building materials sprawled across entire lots.
this does somehow not really fit into architecture - rather a general ruling about, how community lots should look like... even the walled-in space can stay after lifting archtecture, to show, that it is a ruin... and it will be a lot more difficult to use the toilets on community lots-On community lots, no space completely enclosed by wall elements is allowed. The the full range of regulations apply, but as long as the lot is NOT used for a community business: 8x8 is not necessary, at least the dead tree from NatSci is allowed, the land tool is allowed, (not the water tool), roofs are allowed. Imagine empty malls, pubs called the Winchester, abandoned cabins in the dead woods, infirmaries with many rooms with empty beds, abandoned construction sites etc. I paraphrased/pasted Little Nemo for most of this.If you want Architecture to restrict community lots to wasteland-style lots, wouldn't it make more sense to say "any lot your sims visit" rather than "community lots" only? That removes the secret lots from play automatically, because none of them comply with that strict rule, and also puts another prohibition on the trick of going to community lots and staying indefinitely, which is possible anytime after Culinary is lifted. There is one exception that must be listed here. If your sims are in college, and get into the Secret Society, they can visit the lot exactly once, and, as soon as they are able, they must leave. Basically, you can't stop abductions. Invitations to hobby lots can be ignored, but getting abducted to the secrety society can't, and we need to account for that. You would actually have to specify "Nothing from the Buy menu can be placed on a lot other than the home or uni lot" for the rule to have any kick at all. Because if you didn't, that trick comes right back: Place a coffee maker and you are suddenly on that lot, wasteland or not, as long as you want to be, no matter how cold it is and how few walls there are. We don't want people lifting Culinary and Military suddenly being able to visit a community lot to chug coffee while staying indefinitely. That's what the Architecture restriction is supposed to prevent; but it can't unless you limit buy mode too.-You may not use The Great Divide from the fencing tab (Pets) or any item from the Architecture Tab (Mansion and Gardens)
I guess we can call it M&G instead of 'maaaaansion aaaaaand gaaaaaaarden'-After the first day, you may not place more than 2 items from each build mode category per day (2 squares of foundation, 2 wall sections, 2 sections of paint, 2 squares of flooring, etc.) Ignore this restriction on the first day your founder is on the lot to get your house established. If you choose to move into a Secret Society safe house, this restriction goes into place immediately as your house has already been established, with the exception that you may replace the roof with a flat one.
-After the first day, you may not place more than 2 items from each build mode category per day (2 squares of foundation, 2 wall sections, 2 sections of paint or floor etc.). Deleting items or placing a roof that creates new floor tiles counts against the 2 items per day limit as well. Ignore this restriction on the first day your founder moves in to establish your house, unless you chose a secret society house, as it is already established. You may use 'Auto Roof' on safehouses on the first day.-You may edit and remove in build mode, but each delete counts against your 2 item per day limit. The roof removal tool is permitted, but auto roof may not be used after the first day.
-Safe houses may retain any higher quality building materials used to create them.
-No building cheats. Move_objects may only be used to fix glitches.
Perhaps we can toss the building cheats into the general rules
